Sunday evening, I was eating supper and watching a TV show with my spouse when I received a text from my adoptive mom. We'll be visiting her a couple weeks from now.

She began by telling me that she has clothes for me to try on while we're visiting. Then shared the news that on Friday, she fell, hitting her head on concrete & has a concussion, but it's not "too bad".

No one thought to message me until I received this text. This happens so often -- and not just to me. Fellow adoptees & I were chatting about this Saturday afternoon.

I was especially struck by her description of parenting as an #adoptee - “I was parenting blind for the first 16 years of my child’s life. Because adoption is trauma … I’m parenting with a wounded inner child, not even knowing how wounded I was, or what the wound was. So I’m parenting almost out of paranoia.” Yes ! This !
