"We're talking about taking the money and ensuring every single cent is spent on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people."
This is LNP speak for ‘We’ll tell them what they need and our mates need their cut of the funds’.

As abrupt and shocking as Senator #LidiaThorpe’s outburst may’ve been, the very last thing we should do is tell #women and #FirstNations people to sit down and behave themselves. There’s no accountability in silence.

If Australians knew the whole truth about Indigenous history, Lidia Thorpe’s royal outburst would not have been a shock Celeste Liddle Resistance to colonisation has rarely been polite. The senator asked questions Aboriginal people are still waiting – after two centuries – to get the answers to https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/oct/23/if-australians-knew-the-whole-truth-about-indigenous-history-lidia-thorpes-royal-outburst-would-not-have-been-a-shock
I was positively elated to see this pass at the Council meeting last week. Whilst it was incredibly upsetting to see an attempt to undo this motion through the guise of community consultation, I am incredibly happy that the move to shift citizenship ceremonies to 3 days either side of January 26, has been adopted. I hope that January 26 will become a day of recognition and healing in Brimbank.
Back in January, I raised this issue myself and was berated by some Councillors who objected to my proposal. My ask was simple enough; citizenship ceremonies to be shifted away from January 26 and instead, an Indigenous healing ceremony to take place. I used Moonee Valley's Bunjils Marroun Healing Ceremony as an example.
The consequence of this was that I was labelled as a racist, accused of having no idea what Indigenous people wanted, and had my words taken out of context and used to spread misinformation about myself by certain Councillors, simply because I was not a member of their Council committees and did not support their personal views of the subject.
Despite the distress it caused to me at the time (and has continued to do since), I am glad that I chose to stand up for our Indigenous people and advocate for a more inclusive event on January 26.

The #Voice was developed with grassroots consultation in the #Aboriginal and #TorresStraitIslander Community.
I don't know if gaps between #ATSI people & the rest of the population will close faster with the Voice speaking to Parliament.
But I have hope.
I also know that how we have done things for years has failed many ATSI people.
So I will vote YES to the Voice. Because it is what ATSI people have asked for, and because I believe in hope.
I hope other #Australians who read this do too.
