So, unfortunately, it looks like #California #AB2047 is likely to pass. It cleared Assembly and not a single dem voted against it.
If you have a FOSS printer, protect that thing with your life.
If you have a Bambu, maybe consider learning how LAN/dev mode works and take your printer entirely offline.
This bill isn’t technically feasible but that won’t stop them.
Also if you were going to consider buying a 3D printer…might be a good idea to do it sooner rather than later.

Hey, if you live in #California, you need to be keeping an eye on #AB2047, as it got amended to be arguably even worse than it already is, and the way that it is written, it is a ban on #3DPrinting because it is calling for technology that doesn't exist and won't exist in the timeframe they're demanding.
Worse, this isn't going to have the effect they're expecting it to. Far from it, in fact. (Continued)

The World: "Hey USA, we think you have a problem with firearms"
USA: "Yeah, the 3D printed firearms crisis "
The World: "No, we meant actual firear..."
USA: "Got it, say no more, I'm banning 3d printers"

California’s bill, AB 2047, will not only mandate censorware on all 3D printers; it will also criminalize the use of open-source alternatives. Repeating the mistakes of DRM won’t make anyone safer, but it will hurt innovation in the state and risks a slew of new consumer harms ranging from surveillance to platform lock-in. California must stand with creators and reject this legislation before it’s too late.
