Mentre lo spettro della carenza di carburante causata dalla guerra in Iran spaventa molti italiani, qualche compagnia aerea tenta di incentivare l’acquisto dei biglietti con prezzi stracciati. La lowcost egiziana Air Cairo ha annunciato uno sconto del 60% sulle tariffe tra l’aeroporto internazionale del Cairo e Milano. Il vettore, affiliato al ministero dell’Aviazione Civile egiziano, in una nota ha fatto sapere che la “promozione speciale” è valida per viaggi tra il 18 e il 28 maggio e tra il 15 giugno e il 6 agosto: sarà possibile prenotare dal 18 maggio al 15 luglio.
Air Cairo dispone di 42 aerei di diversi modelli, tra cui 33 Airbus (di cui 15 Airbus A320 CEO), 18 Airbus A320neo, sei ATR 72-600 e tre Embraer 190. L’obiettivo della compagnia è di aumentare la propria flotta a 60 aerei entro il 2027, anche per incrementare la frequenza dei voli settimanali sulle rotte esistenti per agevolare i viaggi da, verso e attraverso gli aeroporti egiziani. La tratta Italia-Egitto è una delle più trafficate per la compagnia, come dichiarato alla testata specializzata TravelQuotidiano da Mohamed El Saadany, direttore commerciale Italia di Air Cairo: “Nel 2025 abbiamo trasportato dal mercato italiano 350.000 passeggeri: è il terzo bacino per importanza dopo Arabia Saudita e Germania”.
La scelta di ridurre i prezzi non è isolata: secondo un’elaborazione del Sole 24 Ore su 32 tratte nazionali e internazionali con partenza da Milano e Roma, per un viaggio a/r nella settimana che va dal 9 al 16 luglio sulle rotte europee i prezzi medi al 13 maggio 2026 risultavano inferiori alla media. Nel dettaglio due terzi delle tratte – 20 su 32 – mostravano prezzi più bassi rispetto agli ultimi 12 mesi. Per un Milano-Madrid il costo medio per un volo andata e ritorno è sceso a circa 40 euro da una media storica tra 50 e 130 euro, nella tratta Milano-Lanzarote la differenza con l’anno scorso arriva a 160 euro (da oltre 200 euro nel 2025) e ci sono risparmi considerevoli anche su Roma-Creta (-91 euro), Roma-Lisbona (-79 euro) e Milano-Lisbona (-99 euro).

While the specter of fuel shortages caused by the war in Iran frightens many Italians, some airlines are trying to encourage ticket purchases with slashed prices. The Egyptian low-cost carrier Air Cairo has announced a 60% discount on fares between the Cairo international airport and Milan. The carrier, affiliated with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry, stated in a note that the “special promotion” is valid for travel between May 18th and 28th and between June 15th and August 6th: bookings will be possible from May 18th to July 15th.

Air Cairo operates a fleet of 42 aircraft of various models, including 33 Airbus (of which 15 are Airbus A320 CEOs), 18 Airbus A320neo, six ATR 72-600 and three Embraer 190. The company’s goal is to increase its fleet to 60 aircraft by 2027, also to increase the frequency of weekly flights on existing routes to facilitate travel from, to and through Egyptian airports. The Italy-Egypt route is one of the busiest for the company, as stated to the TravelQuotidiano specialist publication by Mohamed El Saadany, Italy Commercial Director of Air Cairo: “In 2025 we transported 350,000 passengers from the Italian market: it is the third largest market after Saudi Arabia and Germany.”

The decision to reduce prices is not isolated: according to a processing by Sole 24 Ore on 32 national and international routes departing from Milan and Rome, for a round trip journey in the week from July 9th to 16th on European routes, the average prices on May 13th, 2026 were lower than the average. In detail, two-thirds of the routes – 20 out of 32 – showed lower prices than the previous 12 months. The average cost for a round trip flight from Milan to Madrid has fallen to approximately 40 euros from an historical average between 50 and 130 euros, in the Milan-Lanzarote route the difference with last year is 160 euros (from over 200 euros in 2025) and there are considerable savings also on Rome-Crete (-91 euros), Rome-Lisbon (-79 euros) and Milan-Lisbon (-99 euros).
