speaking of iconic brands ...
My heroes today are the citizens of Venice, Italy, who are telling Jeff Bezos the truth during his wedding.
Ten years ago today, the Supreme Court made it possible for couples like Brad and me to marry in every corner of this country. It was a moment we never thought we’d live to see and one we’ll never take for granted. Now, we must stay vigilant to ensure that right is never taken away. Love is love. Then, now, and always.
In the last five years, we've gone from "employees will never have to go into an office" to "employees need to be in the office because creative and innovative work can only be done face-to-face between humans" to "lol we don't need humans"
Dem leaders are supporting a war powers resolution that may actually give Trump more power. https://theintercept.com/2025/06/25/democrats-war-powers-resolutions-trump-israel-iran/
War Powers Resolution From House Democratic Leaders May Not Limit Trump’s War Powers

In an apparent nod to Israel, some Democrats want to give Trump power to defend “an ally or partner of the United States from imminent attack.”

Billionaires hoard wealth and spend it in wasteful, unnecessary ways like vast mansions, super yachts and private jets.

We could instead end poverty, phase out fossil fuels and provide education and healthcare for everyone.

Hello Fedi friends!

My decision to upload the Fedi promo video to YouTube 2 weeks ago was really controversial.

@randahl posted a nice message about the video & encouraged his followers to like / comment on it so the YouTube algorithm would serve it to more people. He was inundated by hostile comments for days. Sorry Randahl!

Well, exhibit A of why this was a good decision in hindsight (see pic).

How else are people going to hear about the Fediverse?

As always, thanks for the support ❤️

Every time I come across this debate I can't help but think of this comic. Thanks to @LegalizeBrain for this round.

PSA: Vaccination schedules on the CDC website have already started changing under RFK Jr., so Scientific American published a guide to the evidence-based vaccine recommendations in place *before* all 17 members of the advisory panel were abruptly dismissed by the new administration.

@ExtinctionR it is way overdue to put slogans like "eat the rich" into the practice
We know what to do and we need to do it
@ExtinctionR
A ubi is $1000 per month per man woman and child would end poverty in this country and would not make one rich person not rich…

The issue isn't how they spend their money @ExtinctionR It's how they do not spend it.

Wealth sitting in a tax haven accruing interest is doing literally nothing. It's a black hole that our labors, our talents and human potential fall into. It's not the stupid shit they spend it on that's destroying our planet, it's that none of it will ever return to the economy to benifit anyone else again. It's the greatest symbolic act of destruction in the entire history of the human species.

@ExtinctionR

The surprising thing I found out is they rarely spend their net worth on anything.

Because their vast holdings, for instance, are collateral to debt. they use that for their expenses, but they also use it to buy up companies eg private equity, which are then themselves stripped of their assets and burdened with the loan that was taken out to purchase them.

The company then, sheds jobs and raises prices. It is not sustainable.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell From a certain level of wealth, it is almost impossible to spend so much money on consumer goods that are actually consumed. Another house is also just an asset, which will often rise in price. These people live in spheres where it is assumed that investment assets must increase by 9-12% in real terms every year. It is then virtually no longer possible to spend this money. Even with an obscene lifestyle.
@GhostOnTheHalfShell @ExtinctionR Billionaires are black holes for money

@ienvision @ExtinctionR

They are the army of darkness. They actually embrace the idea that they are the army of darkness.

Their goal is to turn everyone into a permanent under class or kill them or both whichever is more convenient

@ExtinctionR
I don’t care about the yachts and mansions. It’s the buying up of political parties and entire industries that bothers me. 👀
@ReneeWestberry they won't let us govern ourselves - ever. we're going to have to force the issue. they need to fear us before they can hear us.
@ExtinctionR
The US Congress is well on its way to giving the ultra-rich another tax cut. And the majority of Americans are perfectly fine with this. If they weren't, the GOP wouldn't control dozens of state governments and all three branches of the federal government.
