🇬🇧After a long time, I again have news from a tournament. Yesterday and today I competed in Vienna at Vindobona Bosch 2025. Yesterday with a long sword, today with sabre, and in both weapons I won a medal!

The long sword competition had a bit unusual format, as there was not one, but two rounds of pools. In both pools I have won all bouts, and was third after the pools. I then won all bouts except for one which was the second to the last one against David Piši, where I broke my sword 😢. For the bronze bout I borrowed a new sword from Vojta Popelka, for which I am very grateful, and won.

The sabre competition had a standard format, i.e. single round of pools. I have won in all bouts. Both in the pools, and in the elimination, so I have won the gold medal🥇, for which I am very happy, especially considering I do not really train with sabre. Here too my weapon got damaged, but only slightly, and it is still usable.

I had a bad fencing weekend in London. I competed in the London HEMA Open tournament in three categories (in this order): saber, rapier and dagger, and longsword.

In saber I won two and lost two fights in the pool, ending up 30th before elimination, where I lost (deservedly) in the first round.

In rapier and dagger I fought a bit better - I won three times, and lost two times, ending up 22nd. However, because it was (too?) late, the organisers decided to let only 16 fighters (out of 58) into the elimination. Hm 😕

In longword I was just simply stupid. In the pool I won all bouts, but, like last year, I lost in the first round of elimination 🤦‍♂️ Why...

Today I took part in the tournament Brünner Stich, organised by Dobrovolný šerm. It was a very good event, but I did worse than I would have liked. In the group I have won five out of six bouts, but the one where I lost I should have won. I was 10th after the groups. 56 fencers advanced to the elimination, therefore I fought from the first round. I was eliminated in the second round by Matúš Koronthály, but it was the fight that I enjoyed the most from the whole tournament. In total I have finished 19th 😕

My fencing club, SHŠ Krkavci, invites you to a team longsword tournament!

Teams of 3-4 members compete in the tournament. In the first phase, the members compete in groups, similarly to classic tournaments. Based on the group phase results, a team elimination bracket is arranged, where the whole teams compete in a relay format similar to the one used in sport fencing.

Yesterday and the day before I took part in the Berlin HEMA Cup. Here I describe the second day when I fought with the longsword. This tournament used an unusual system where the results of the bouts were not important, but those of the indiviudal exchanges were. Nevertheless, I was sixth after the pools, and easily advanced into the elimination. In the elimination, I fought quite well, I would say, because I have not been defeated, and finished the first 🥇, claiming the gold bear! I thank a lot to the Czech-Slovak island for preparation for this afterblow tournament.

Ultimā septimānā certātiōnī Unguī Rotykae (Rotyčí spár) in Pragā interfuī. Ēnse longō tantum pugnābō et sānē bene. Nēmine in circulī victus sum et post circulōs vel prīmus fuī. In ēlīminātiōne in omnibus gradibus vīcī praeter ultimum. In certāmine ultimō, quod tenus tribus congressū esset, utrōque congressibus prīmōs victus sum, summā secundus cōnficiēns.

Last week I participated in the tournament Rotyka's Claw (Rotyčí spár) in Prague. I fought only in longsword, and quite well. Nobody defeated me in the pool, and after the pools I was first. In the elimination I won in all rounds except for the last one. In the final bout, which could have been up to three rounds, I lost in both of the first two rounds, finishing second in total.
