This thread by @oldladyplays is, in my opinion, a solid analysis. It's backed by a frank assessment of contemporary events and historical events. The projected timeline is more optimistic than I had anticipated, though I think this is a well-reasoned hypothesis. Furthermore, history tells us that when a fragile empire starts to crumble, events can move at a startling pace.

I've always been hopeful that Ukraine would repel the invasion by Russia (even with the shamefully limited support from allies). From the moment Russia invaded Crimea, it's been clear that it's only a matter of time before the Russian economy will fail under Putin's mismanagement, cronyism, and hubris.
