We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like ``I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive....'' And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: ``Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?''

Buried in the mifepristone opinion is a recognition of constitutional fetal personhood, i.e., that the constitution requires providing zygotes with equal protection.

The Supreme Court did not say that in Dobbs. The judge makes it up based on an amicus brief filed in Dobbs.

Here’s something that Twitter expats are not really understanding, not using hashtags on Mastodon is the reason your engagement is underwhelming. Mastodon doesn’t have a search function nor an algorithm to surface inflammatory nonsense all the time. Unless you tag your post it’s only going to reach your followers at the time of posting. If someone is not in front of the app during that time, you might as well shout into the neither. #TwitterMigration #MastodonMigration #MastodonTips
The best thing I've seen written on Musk and Twitter is this random YouTube comment (that I can't find a way to link to directly)

MY BRAIN: We have an appointment later

ME: Okay, I'd like to be productive this morning

MY BRAIN: We'd prefer to wait for the appointment

ME: But I wanted to be productive-

MY BRAIN: Too bad, we are busy waiting for the appointment

Prediction for Twitter's demise:

1. Twitter gets harder to maintain

2. Outages increase from once a week to near daily

3. Elon Musk pronounces that Twitter's old code is a mess that can't be saved, and he promises Twitter 3.0 -- which will be better in all ways from the old Twitter

4. A year later, Twitter 3.0 is released, and it's not like "real" Twitter -- but it's a pay-to-play platform

5. People finally realize "old" Twitter is not coming back, and go elsewhere -- probably to Mastodon

People don’t talk about @woollyapp enough. It’s beautiful and snappy. Has many Mastodon features (followed hashtags list, picking post language, etc). Well done @mttvll!

Apple Thinks Mastodon Has Legs

Apple’s Messages Apps Adding Rich Previews for Mastodon Posts

"In with the OS betas, there’s a new feature coming in the next round of Apple’s OS updates that reads like a vote of confidence for Mastodon. A piece from iDownloadBlog says the upcoming update will see the Messages app bring “native embeds for Mastodon posts that come with more details than standard URL previews.”

"For folks who don’t know, the piece says Mastodon is “a federated social media service…” Think of it as a social media idea that sort of ends up like a social media platform, running on individually controlled servers, beholden to no one corporate owner or shareholders. It’s been around for a few years, though it was little more than a nerd retreat before Elon Musk took over Twitter. Once that happened, people looking for somewhere to go that wasn’t Twitter found #Mastodon. And #Apple seems to think it has legs."

Genuinely hilarious #Elon ranted for months about how trivial defeating Twitter bots would be … only to be utterly stymied by… telco bots
This is completely false. We stand by our reporting
