We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like ``I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive....'' And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: ``Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?''
@mike @caseynewton feels like he’s applying strategies he used in the car biz to social media and … the “walled garden run by extremely ruthless dictator” doesn’t work for internet platform businesses
@bleary2k there are easier ways to tank it…
@gme you could say he’s winning short sighted battles to lose the overall war… but let’s be honest, he ain’t even winning the battles!

Buried in the mifepristone opinion is a recognition of constitutional fetal personhood, i.e., that the constitution requires providing zygotes with equal protection.

The Supreme Court did not say that in Dobbs. The judge makes it up based on an amicus brief filed in Dobbs.

@wonkothesane @mmasnick @chancerydaily Musk has owned Twitter for a good while now and basically the only product change is the copy on the alert modal for blue checks? And he got a ton of the most successful & popular figures in US pop culture to loudly declare Twitter ain’t worth paying for?

Genius?

Here’s something that Twitter expats are not really understanding, not using hashtags on Mastodon is the reason your engagement is underwhelming. Mastodon doesn’t have a search function nor an algorithm to surface inflammatory nonsense all the time. Unless you tag your post it’s only going to reach your followers at the time of posting. If someone is not in front of the app during that time, you might as well shout into the neither. #TwitterMigration #MastodonMigration #MastodonTips
@bosquebill @malwaretech There was no $1b cancellation fee option. He signed a binding contract and was on the hook for the $42b. $1b is only if there was some major violation of contract terms, which there never was
@malwaretech it’s genuinely hard to wrap your mind around how bad he’s been at running Twitter. so bad, across so many dimensions, and a total lack of understanding of so many domains
@cspam it’s gonna be hilarious if it turns out they just forgot to update the api keys for the url shortener service when they flipped the api to paid, and the clients were all using the shortener to rehydrate. Not the employees’ fault, there’s no one left and it’s chaos
