Very excited about this! I played some gigs with Frank Tiberi back when I was at Berklee College of Music right around 2000, and he talked about these tapes but only a few select friends would be allowed to his studio to listen.

@cringe @caseyliss I should probably do that. I’ve mostly only attempted it in big legacy corporate codebases where it has been pretty frustrating. That said thats what a I actually do so maybe I should just stick with option 3 keep on and check back in next year :)

@cringe @caseyliss and that’s where it starts to get scary and personal. And of course some of that doesn’t even require that they believe that it actually makes people more efficient just that they can pressure us to over extended and burn ourselves out because of fear.
@cringe @caseyliss I also think we shouldn’t be so quick to judge the efficacy gains from these tools. People are famously bad at this. I use VI and like all VI users believe it makes me faster. But every actual study says that just isn’t true. And right now actual studies (and not vibes) aren’t showing the AI gains.
@cringe @caseyliss Maybe. I feel like whenever I think about this I jumble like 10 different issues together at once
1. Do I enjoy this?
2. Does this really work?
3. A dread about the fact that employers are so giddy about using this to eliminate jobs.
@cringe @caseyliss I think we are allowed to have aesthetic opinions about the tools we use and how we spend our time. And deciding that a set of tools or a way of working doesn’t comport with our ethos is reasonable and doesn’t mean you are an old man yelling at clouds.
@caseyliss @patrickmcconnell the 80/20 rule has been true for a long time and I’m not sure that AI fundamentally changed that equation. That last 30% is the 100% of the actual value provided by a high quality app.

A Letter from Cole Wehrle

Eight years ago I walked through the doors of a converted warehouse on the edge of Saint Paul and made my way through a back staircase to the still unfinished second floor. I wandered around a bit before I got to a set of doors with a single sheet of paper taped to the door with the words “Leder Games” printed on it.
