I will fight to the death for Janelle Monae because her first project, Metropolis, was a tour de force expression of her fears, sadness, and anxiety about having to be perfect in a world that doesn't want her to succeed.

As a Black person coming up in the unforgiving and often toxic space of technology and development, I felt that. The sheer vulnerability of her voice expressing she didn't know what to do other than keep trying in a way that made her sad, miserable, and scared.

Since then, every album she's created has been her trying to make sense of this madness.

Nah, homie. I will always stan for Janelle. Period.
