Itinerant tech lead at Fearless in #Baltimore. I kibitz about code and really just want to make the whole experience of creating software better.

Vibe coding is a prime example of the sheep mentality we have in tech.

Some out of touch tech bro says something stupid, and a new industry / profession is born out of it.

one thing I've learned about teaching over the years is that if I make a negative statement (like “git commits aren't stored as diffs"), it doesn't really work -- often people will just ignore it, especially if it contradicts their current mental model

so I always have to figure out how to make a positive statement, and make it in a way that will convince people whose mental model is different right now

convincing people to adjust their mental models is really hard!

Don't comment bad code rewrite it.

Think of all of your testing as examples and experiments to figure out examples. Do you really want them generated or is the ‘alignment engineer’ for your AI systems actually a tester with a fancy new title? Testers exist as the examples take a lot of perspectives to figure out so that are correct and sufficient.

Imposing conventional commits plus an issue number
when everyone commits:

chore: very important commit (NOISSUE)

is ... kind of an idiot convention with zero value other than burden.

You might as well ditch the enforcement. The result will be the same.

#justsaying

For the record: chore means "miscellaneous commits e.g. modifying .gitignore"

For those who do not know conventional commits (like me)
