It’s #infertilityawarenessweek and as a person who is both struggling with infertility and an adopted person, I have many thoughts about this topic.
Most importantly, adoption is not a solution to infertility.
Things I've learned about Mastodon this week:
1. Photo captions are read by screenreaders for people who have impaired vision. The more descriptive you make them, the more people can appreciate your post.
2. Hashtags should be "camel style" which means you capitalize each word in the tag - this enables screen readers to identify different words in the tag,
3. Reblogging boosts posts and favourites do not.
4. Hashtags are way more important here than on the birdsite.
November 19th is the 25th anniversary of the Adoption and Safe Families Act. 25 years of families being unnecessarily destroyed by the state.
If you’re interested in learning more, please read this great piece from Sarah Katz. It’s time to #AbolishASFA.

"To help make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same."
Btw, you can follow hashtags here, too!

Nov. is National Adoption Awareness Month. #naam I am an adoptee and this is my NAAM 2022 intro.
I am a private domestic adoptee. Adopted in 1983. I began my adoptee advocacy around 2020 when I found other adoptees online during the pandemic started unpacking my adoption and the unexamined trauma that was surfacing for me starting around 2015.
My advocacy has deeply helped me process and put into context the trauma I did not know I had.
