Well, there are significant data concerns with a lot of the modern library systems, actually. Not only are most libraries equipped to properly assess data security, librarians are not receiving the training they need *in* data security. It doesn't help that librarians, much like public teachers, are underpaid and over-relied on as a vital part of America's failing social safety net.
For instance, services like Hoopla might track user information and retain/share it in ways not covered by library policy. The same goes for database systems upon which modern libraries rely.
This is why I keep advocating for locally-controlled, independent tech infrastructure for libraries... but c'est la vie, that's a hill I'm likely to die on.
That said: you're generally right. Good data practices on the user-end help a TON. It's just that it's difficult to educate and train people to take even mild precautions.
