🎉 Last night, @jona received the Designpreis Brandenburg for the project »I Want a Better Catastrophe« in the category: Digital Design, UX/UI, Game Design Young Professionals! 👏

The interface connects audio narration with open-ended exploration, offering new ways to navigate the complexities of the climate crisis. It is available as a free template!

»Conceptual Analogues: Coming to Terms with Data Visualisation«

https://doi.org/10.11588/ic.2025.1.113533

In which I propose conceptual analogues as terms that fuse theory and practice to expand the language of data visualization. It is based on a contribution to the early-pandemic workshop »What is the Digital Doing?« and is out now in a special issue of Interface Critique, edited by Nina Tolksdorf and Lindsey Drury.

Wrapping up #Nordmedia25 in Odense, I have to do a not so humble brag:

My PhD dissertation “Design + Data Journalism: Shifting epistemologies, values, and practices” won the prize for best thesis of the year at the Swedish association for Media and Communication research (FSMK).

I am very honoured and happy that many years of dedicated work brought me this fantastic result. The thesis can be read here:

If you are in Berlin I can also give you a copy!

https://interaktiv.tagesspiegel.de/lab/wo-berlins-private-pools-stehen-und-was-das-uber-die-stadt-verraet-luftbilder-hitze-wasser-ungleichheit-datenanalyse/

📍 Bauhaus Reuse (BHROX), Ernst-Reuter-Platz
📅 25.–30. Juli, täglich 12–20 Uhr (außer Montag)
📱 AR-Installationen: Tablets/Smartphones mitbringen!
