July 5 - 6 is World Firefly Day! Like a lot of insects fireflies are threatened by our actions. Check out fireflyersinternational.net to find out how you can help gather data on these magical animals and help scientists track their populations.

My #linocut print shows 3 fireflies (Photinus pyralis, the common eastern firefly or big dipper firefly) in a field against the night sky. These bioluminescent insects are the most common firefly in North American, and ๐Ÿงต1/2

@BsCreativeLife This is a personal opinion, but if it's an adult beetle, then drying and pinning is preferable to alcohol preservation. Jars and vials just take up so much space...

silk, silver, spices, slaves book discussion with lio mangubat! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ these "lost tales" are really ones I've never heard of before. (the otter fur trade in manila? filipino gangsters in shanghai? francis ford coppola getting absolutely traumatized by philippine weather?) the event featured a chapter reading (sultan of broadway), a spirited q&a, and an activity on "philippinitis." follow @/beachreads.kap (beach house kapitolyo) for more events! upcycled blouse by me.

When we mention we're going to be planting trees we have infinite people biting our arms off to come and plant them.

When we need the help with maintenance there is a deafening silence.

If you want to chase glory, focus on saving recently planted woodlands, doing the hard but critical work of making sure these saplings live, instead of just grabbing photo ops with a spade.

Birthday drinks afterwards. Come play. https://www.protect.earth/events/sapling-guardian-day-near-radstock

Sapling Guardian Day Near Radstock โ€” Protect Earth

We planted saplings on this site back in 2022. We're circling back to check how things are going and are organising a sapling care and maintenance volunteering day to help ensure the survival and healthy growth of these saplings. Activities include: Identifying and replacing saplings that have

I love how this queen Lasius arizonicus ant is smooth like glass. Sheโ€™s a social parasite who , after dropping her wings, sneaks into existing ant colonies, kills the resident queen, and takes over.

So much drama. #Lasius #Ants #Insects

The larvae of the Eggplant Tortoise Beetle (Gratiana pallidula) has spiny appendages and keeps its poop and exuviae (skins from previous molts) attached at the rear. It can hold this hot mess over its body or elevate it--like the convertible roof of a car. The three round structures are head capsules from previous molts. You can see where it pooped, molted, pooped, molted, pooped, molted (its life history displayed on its back).
