Why are we doing this?
What are we building here?
Why should journalists join?
We started journa.host as a nonprofit Mastodon server, volunteers just getting going, with a grant from the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, CUNY.
Right now, we're in triage mode, bringing journalists onto the platform and building the thing, without time to prepare much documentation.
I can't speak for everyone, but here's why I'm doing this:
These are the last lines of the last speech ever typed for President Kennedy, intended for remarks on November 22, 1963 at the Democratic State Committee in Austin.

This folder contains materials collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning undelivered remarks intended for the Texas Democratic State Committee. The major points of the speech cover the long-standing relationship between Texas and the Democratic Party and the administration's comprehensive foreign and domestic accomplishments. Materials in this folder include a memorandum and note cards of the speech.

I know there is a lot more people want, like editing, but those are bigger features and I thought it better to push something out the door, so I will keep releasing 17.x versions for a while to push out more new features.
They will mainly focus on adding Mastodon v3.5 and v4.0 features that Toot! is missing, plus any little bits of polish that would make me happy.
I think @TexasObserver must be the first organisation doing mastodon right.
Their own instance and their own accounts.
Wow!
