During the school semester that finished earlier this month, at one point I had some downtime after a small group Biology project a few classmates and I finished up early. I had just read this article¹ about how most people can’t tell what double storey lowercase g looks like so I did some tests on my classmates on a whim. None of them could write it and one of them didn’t believe that it was everywhere until I pointed it out in a textbook. They could all identify it, but they didn’t seem to recognize it as distinct from the single storey variant and didn’t realize how common it was.
Anyway, it’s really unusual how people can see writing multiple times every day in a language they’re fluent in and not know it exists.
