Looks like the 2nd wave of #SteamController shipments went out in Europe. Just got my update.
This process doesn't require different skills than before, but each to different degrees. The creative challenge is now front and center. Some people have been referring to the unique defining skill as "taste", which sounds a bit weird, but I have no better name for it either.
The truth about vibe and agentic coding is that it's still a lot of work to create something of value for other people. It made me realize just how much of the work is actually a back and forth on features and implementation details. #ai

Do you remember the surprise announcement of a new social network in Davos this past January? Something that promised to be the "first" European social network?

Its name is #WSocial and it's a fork of #Bluesky. Its founders have ties with European politicians - but there is no official involvement by the EU.

You wouldn't know any of this from media reports because they all rehashed their talking points. So I wrote a post about it, dispelling some myths:

W Social uncovered: the reality behind the hype

An article dispelling myths about W Social, the new European platform that aims to rival X: it is a fork of Bluesky that shares many similarities with Eurosky and requires government ID to sign up.

The #SteamController already being sold out is nuts. This gotta be the fastest selling controller launch of all time. Or even gaming peripheral. The original Steam Controller allegedly sold about 1.5mil - I wonder what amount was sold yesterday alone. 500k?

Came across a weird new-to-me kind of object at the thrift store. 45 RPM single with a handwritten label, "take 5" after the song title. I looked it up and it seems this is from a studio that did direct-to-vinyl lathe cut recordings - they got a band into the studio and had them perform the same song a bunch of times, with each take being cut to a vinyl exactly once during the recording process itself.

Sound quality is pretty bad, but it's a cute concept.

VANISHING CULTURE is out now πŸ“š

We tend to think the internet is permanent, but the new book from the Internet Archive starts with a simple reality: our digital memory is far more fragile than we think πŸ•³οΈ

Vanishing Culture looks at legal pressures, platform restrictions, and limits on tools like the Wayback Machine already affecting what can be preserved.

This isn’t future risk, it’s happening now.

I was already very happy with @CachyOS - but that it ships with the classic #Winamp 2.9 skin for Audacious included wins it a special place in my heart. It's the little things.
