I become a much better gardener once I realized that it is a form of collaboration, not of warfare. Bugs 🐛, falling leaves 🍃, mushrooms 🍄, unexpected sprouts 🌱—none of these are the enemy, and my job is not to remove them, so long as they are not actively destroying what I am creating (such as bugs eating my vegetables).
Problem is, I assumed automatically that any natural growth and change was destructive, with no evidence for this assumption aside from my own mindset around what I thought gardening meant.
