The Zuck suck is in full swing. In the few short hours since I started using #Threads, #DuckDuckGo has already blocked over 200 data tracking attempts. These include things like "headphone status" and "screen density."

EDIT for clarity: The 200+ attempts *may* have been overcounted as DDG hadn't tooled their VPN for Threads yet.

Since my post about the #DuckDuckGo app and #Threads is still getting lots of attention, I want to be clear about how I actually feel about #DataPrivacy. It's a lot like #recycling. Yeah it's a good thing to protect your own personal data, but if we're being honest, it's not effective on an individual scale. We need good legislation at a national level to meaningfully change the game for the benefit of us all. Until then, no matter how careful you are, you're still being negatively affected.

Writing Exchange

I recently started a #substack so I could centralize my #bookreview, #moviereview #writing. I also write about #socialwork sometimes. Please feel free to share and give me some movie and book recommendations!

This week I wrote about #AsteroidCity and #IndianaJones, as well as #TheMountainintheSea, as well as #books #organization

Thanks for reading and sharing!

Octopuses, Asteroids, Joneses, and Book Organization

What a week for the movies!

Decided to start logging all of my reading, watching, and listening on a substack to centralize all my reviews and thoughts! I'll also be writing about social work stuff there, too!

Please read and share if you'd like!

Week 1

What's happening this first week of June?

TB in DC

I’ve played #TearsOfTheKindgom basically non-stop for almost 13 hours today. It’s been a LONG time since a game occupied an entire day for me. I *LOVE* #Zelda, and this game is fantastic.

I just ran through what I thought may have been the last dungeon and had an unexpected boss fight that was INCREDIBLE. Can’t wait to play more!

Was having kind of a rough day today, but went to the park after work to #read N.K. Jemisin’s The City We Became (which I’m enjoying).

As I was about to head home, ran into a friend from book club and some other folks from the park. I got to pet all of their pug #dogs and sat for a while. 5 pugs and so much energy! I loved getting to pet them and really needed it today.

Friend also had books on hand they were carrying to lend me - so nice!

Long-ish day today. Started with #breakfast at the usual place, then walked around the park and talked to my mom for #MothersDay. Bought a $1 cookie from some kids doing a bake sale. Then came home and put new topsoil on this little spot. Rest of the day was spent reading #TheCityWeBecame and playing #TearsOfTheKindgom .

Also added this #CowboyBebop #Swordfish sticker to my bike!

Finished #HarukiMurakami 's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" earlier this afternoon. A lot to think about, but I liked it. I'd give it a 3.5/5; some of the writing is a little strange, the female characters a bit off, and the way characters are described is at times a little crude.

Still, an interesting read. My review on #goodreads linked below. Started Rafael Bernal's "The Mongolian Conspiracy" after.

Thomas B's review of Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

4/5: I'd probably put this at 3.5. Everything seemed to come together in the closing chapters, and those were my favorite. This is a pretty strange book, with interesting explorations of conscious and subconscious, and what those might look like. I found the writing to be a little odd at points - I'm not sure if that's an element of translation, or if the writing is just... a little odd. Some favorite lines: "First, about the mind. You tell me there is no fighting or hatred or desire in the Town. That is a beautiful dream, and I do want your happiness. But the absence of fighting or hatred or ...

Had such a lovely time at a #cookout last night talking about #books, #movies, and anything else that came up.

Lots of fun!
