@fable_cash @rodlux @academicchatter Might be, I'm no expert on copyright law. But people do already pay for things that aren't copyrighted, such as photo prints of photos that are out of copyright by now. But the price is lower, and I'd expect that to be the case here, too.
@rodlux @academicchatter That being said, I could see myself buy AI art, if nothing else then for the novelty of it. But I don't think I'd be willing to pay as much for it as for human-made art. I guess it comes back to your definition of art being made art by the human that makes it. I need to be able to tell myself that I'm look into a human soul through the work of art.
@rodlux @academicchatter Without having a clear definition of "art", I agree. I have both digitally made art and handcrafted art in my home (no AI art, yet), and while I enjoy all of it, the more handmade it is, the more tactile it seems, the more I enjoy it. And this is coming from a technocrat.
Oh hell yeah. @mozilla is launching a Mastodon instance in early 2023! I’m very excited for this. Mozilla is really good at what they do. Firefox has over 200M monthly active users, and with any luck they’ll build better support for the fediverse into Firefox itself. Mastodon will greatly benefit from easy to use professionally run instances that can handle massive scaling https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/mozilla-launch-fediverse-instance-social-media-alternative/

Apparently there are people out there who think it's inappropriate to use Mastodon to talk about books you've written or promote projects you've worked on because it's marketing and self-promotion?

I am not one of those people. I implore you to write about the work you have done and the things you have made - I want to hear about that stuff!

@simon I've seen a few people get backlash, too. Don't get it. As long as you're not shouting into my feed with totally irrelevant info, you should definitely use what platforms you have (Mastodon included) to promote the stuff you've made and are proud of.
@micahflee @mozilla Interesting to see major players like Mozilla joining Mastodon. And yes, with Mozilla's track record, it's going to be exciting to see how they run it.
@aallan That's really cool, very steam punk.
@aallan I'd totally to a museum/exhibit to see that!
@pernillet A few friends of mine have worked with flipped classrooms in various formats, and I've seen great stuff come of it. So yeah, I think it could both enrich classroom teaching, and be a way of mitigating the risk of plagiarism through AI.
