The number one #FediTip:
Follow often. You can always unfollow, but the only way to find your little cozy community is by building it yourself.

reasons mastodon's "viral dampening effect" is a good thing:
👉🏻 no "main character of the day"
👉🏻 no free text searching for people to get angry at (and harrass)
👉🏻 doomscrolling is *actually bad for you* and not a thing we should be trying to replicate
👉🏻 birdsite's virality is heavily driven by actual paid advertising and bots. You think that "Explore" tab gets its content organically? really? That's not making connections between people, it's about driving sales.
Mastodon is not, and should not be, a 1:1 replacement for Twitter. But it *can* be a new place for you to make valuable connections with other human beings. #twitter #twittermigration
suggestion: hashtags are important here. please use “Camel Case” so screen readers understand what the words are and can pronounce them properly. example:
#DogsOfMastodon not #dogsofmastodon
make sense??
Really disappointed to search the #Indigenous tag and immediately find researchers of #Native peoples before actual #NDN or #FirstNations peoples.
My first mastodon instance in 2018 was Indigedon, but it's shut down now. I'm sad about having to rebuild my excellently curated #NativeTwitter.
I'm looking to follow other Natives here, especially other #Mohawk #Kanyenkehaka #Haudenosaunee #Iroquois (but not exclusively!). Oh! And beaders, quillwork, & artists!
Tomorrow is the last day of the Celtic calendar in Ireland and the start of winter and the new year as night falls on Oíche Shamhna.
It is a day when the worlds are closer together and the spirits and otherworld are nearer to us.
A good day to be merry and to dress the kids up to confuse malevolent beings, to celebrate the end of the harvest with games and feasting, and a time to prepare for the longer nights to come.
And the day after, Lá Samhna, is said to be the only day of the year when the Púca, the trickster spirit, can be trusted. Remember that..
Oíche shamhna mhaith daoibh go léir ;)
