Retired ER doc, US health services research. Used to be @chowkydar on Twitter, have escaped. For a few years it was a lot of fun, kept me in the loop after retirement. Sorry it was stolen by the guy who made my nice Tesla.

I lived in Linz as a kid in the 60s. So hard to believe the Stacheldraht has turned into this sweet scene.

You know why we Germans are so pedantic about data protection? Someone around 90 years ago went through all records available, selected people with certain criteria, with the help of IBM, and then killed them all.

We don't want to be on any list.

And now the US Gov and Musk are trying to get access to all data they have about every person and put them into a big fat DB and run AI over it.

I am afraid what they will do with that.

Disinfo: Ukraine started a war against people who considered themselves to be a part of Russia in 2014

EUvsDisinfo

#Zelensky said today that he believes "The war will end sooner under Pres. T****."

OF COURSE IT WILL as he'll demand they forfeit their entire East Coast to #Russia.

REMEMBER T****'s FIRST #IMPEACHMENT where he EXTORTED Zelensky, threatening to withhold Javelin missiles appropriated by Congress in exchange for dirt on #Biden?

It looks like one of his first acts upon being Potus again is to extort #Ukraine yet again, surrendering land to the attacker who came to steal it from them. 🤬

The exodus of scientists from #Twitter is accelerating. Largely because of reasons of nostalgia (the interface and experience is like twitter's from a decade ago), many gravitate towards #bluesky. But there is no reason to limit yourselves to one corner of the #fediverse.

@ChristosArgyrop Stercosophy! Invented by the Greeks
Can you suggest some soothing names/monikers for H5N1 in humans?
@ChristosArgyrop HAHAHA! Next how about lethal midline granuloma, got to be the worst disease name ever

One of the things that kept me on Twitter was that so many of the brightest names in areas of actual expertise were there.

And you could open a conversation and many of them were responsive. And when they weren’t, there would be plenty of their followers from whom you could actually learn things.

To a large extent that first statement is still true, but in my experience the second is not.

I presume that Musk’s suppression of non-Blue-Ticks is the main reason
