One of the things that kept me on Twitter was that so many of the brightest names in areas of actual expertise were there.

And you could open a conversation and many of them were responsive. And when they weren’t, there would be plenty of their followers from whom you could actually learn things.

To a large extent that first statement is still true, but in my experience the second is not.

I presume that Musk’s suppression of non-Blue-Ticks is the main reason

they invested years in cultivating a quality level of engagement and a robust following. musk came in and killed it all. and they're still dealing with that

there's still a large number of quality accounts there. it's still shifting away, slowly, slower than we want, but it's happening

i'm interested in how we can beef mastodon up to accelerate that
