I'm very proud to have been a part of this paper written with @celestekidd and @spiantado. It is a short summary of why it is just wrong, given what we know about the cognitive science of concepts, to think that biological sex is the only "scientific" way to define man/woman.
Trans-inclusive gender categories are cognitively natural - Nature Human Behaviour
On the basis of decades of cognitive science research into the nature of lexical concepts, we argue that gender categories that reflect the reality of the experiences of transgender people are more useful and cognitively natural than sex-based category definitions.
