Anyone using #Wazuh out there? Currently uninstalling it. I gave it an honest shake, but the server side of things has been unstable for me. The level of reporting I can probably get from other tools, and out of the box it is a ton of alerts, with lots of stuff needing to be turned off.
Alternative solution ideas are welcome, I'd prefer something less noisy and easier to manage.
War stories are also welcome.
Chiweenies make the best watchdogs. Dahlia barks when she hears a truck on our street outside (she recognizes the neighborsβ trucks and ignores them), and seems to know if anyone is even close to the front door and alerts me.
Right now technicians are out troubleshooting an under-performing #solar panel. She heard them before they pulled up, and she tried to get between me and them when I opened the door. Right now sheβs at my feet guarding me. Thank you Dahlia, youβre the best.
When the sun is out I am running the household, charging batteries, AND selling excess to the grid. On a sunny day the batteries are charged by 1pm and they start to discharge and handle the house load after 5pm, reaching 50% by late evening. Then I start pulling from the grid again, but by then I'm in bed asleep, minimal power use.
With the money saved, maybe I can go visit the Temple of Ra: https://www.livescience.com/ancient-egyptian-sun-temple-discovered.
On November 22nd, 1987, at approximately 9:00 PM, Chicago's WGN-TV was hijacked briefly by an unknown figure wearing a rubber Max Headroom mask. The intrusion lasted only a few seconds before being cut off by engineers at WGN-TV.
at 11:00 PM, viewers of Chicago's PBS affiliate, WTTW-TV, were settling down to watch the Doctor Who serial, Horror of Fang Rock.
And then, minutes to the story, and out of nowhere, came Max Headroom once again... and the most infamous signal hijacking and trolling incident to ever hit the airwaves.
For approximately 90 seconds, "Max" made comments about Chuck Swirsky, calling him a "fricking liberal", holding up a Pepsi can and tossing it while saying "Catch the Wave" (Max Headroom was a Coca-Cola spokesperson), making comments about dirty gloves, humming the Clutch Cargo theme and quipping "I still see the X!" (the last line of the last Clutch Cargo episode, not the oft-misheard "I stole CBS!"), complaining about his "piles" while making loud farting noises, and towards the end of the broadcast, being spanked by a French maid with a fly swatter. The transmission was finally cut off after that, dropping viewers back to the Doctor commenting "As far as I can tell, a massive electrical shock. He died instantly."
To this day, no one knows who "Max" was, where they came from, or for what reason they did it. It's still one of the most mysterious occurrences, and still has that air of mystique to this day. And honestly, let "Max" stay anonymous. It's a lot better and a lot cooler that way!

An older set of pics for #Mondog which show how Dahlia does my job for me - sniffing out backdoors and checking container security.
I pushed a few fixes and improvements to instances.social this night and it is now tracking about six times more instances than it was before (2200 => 12800).
Autodiscovery of instances had been broken for some time now, and obviously with all the new users from the last weeks, came many new instances.
See the full list on https://instances.social/list/advanced and https://instances.social/list/old (the latter being the "legacy" list, a plain html table, which is quite... heavy for browsers).
