Biologist working in science communication. Gay. Irish. He/Him.
For lots of scientific disciplines, it makes sense to focus your reading on peer-reviewed journals.
But if you're a scientist working on community engagement / participation, you need to also include books, essays, documentaries, exhibitions, artworks, films, etc.
Because journal articles are rarely written by people who represent (and therefore understand) the communities in question.
@james Thanks so much!
I've been drawing my friends' cats lately, and I'm quite proud of this one.

#Introduction: Hi I'm Lee aka Constababble!

I'm a science/climate/research communicator and edu-tainer. Forever a farm kid in the city.

I used to work in TV but now I do more social media stuff, MCing, reels, #tiktok, twitch streaming etc. I like making factual content for screens and socials of all types. Aim to make people laugh while they learn.

Cool stuff about me:
❄️ Antarctica for 3 weeks in 2018 (visited a bunch of research stations while there. and streamed my footage on #Twitch)

🎬 Hosted an Australian kids science TV show called Scope (2016-2020)

📚 Wrote a kids book called 'How to Save the Whole Stinkin' Planet'. Writing another one now!

🔥 Spent a year doing fire shows in remote and regional communities as a Science Circus performer

Uncool stuff about me:

😱 I reckon I'm developing bunions like my nan had. I also tend to overshare.

Science concepts do not belong to English. My favourite slide in today’s presentation by Dr Alicia Wooten on ‘Living and breathing science in ASL’.
@Lilith @Natferreyra I love New Adventures in Hi-Fi so much
Today is #TransDayOfRemembrance. A day to remember and honour trans people we've lost to transphobia and violence, and to reflect on our role in protecting trans futures.
@markgbaxter Oh nice! I've been meaning to do this.
One of my favourite things about #LGBTQSTEMDay is that it's packed with events created by our community for our community. We use it as an opportunity to nurture support, solidarity, and friendship. To me, that's what it's all about.
@melsmarsh @albinokid One of the first people I followed on here! :)
