Sunsets at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile are awesome, but when I worked there I would often point my camera the other way around, towards the East. Why? To capture the long shadow that Cerro Paranal casts over the twilight sky. #astronomy #astrophotography #astrodon #sunset
The first night of my run with #HARPS spectrograph at #LaSilla Observatory in Chile is tonight 🔭 ! I have been there for a few days and had new year’s eve at the observatory 💫 . I will observe seven nights for different programs that search and characterize #exoplanets with radial velocity. Everything is so beautiful and calm there.
Thank you @AlexSanterne for this amazing opportunity 🪐
I am looking for interested candidates in performing the PhD in my research group on extrasolar planets at the Center for Astrobiology through a research grant from the Comunidad de Madrid that will soon be published. If interested please DM me as soon as possible.More info on the projects developed in my group can be found here:
https://cab.inta-csic.es/en/personal/lillo-box-jorge/
The PhD thesis will be related to the study and characterization of extrasolar planets in the context of the JWST, Ariel, and PLATO missions.
Lillo-Box, Jorge – CAB

I am a researcher at the Center for Astrobiology in the Department of Astrophysics and my main research line is the detection and characterization of planetary systems to understand their diversity. I graduated in Physical Sciences from the University of La Laguna in 2010 (first cycle at the Complutense University of Madrid and specialty in […]

#YourBestAstroPic2022 is over and I am very please to announce that the #winner is @double_oh_3 with his #stunning #astrophotography of the flame and horsehead nebulas. This #photography reached 67 boosts. Congratulations 👏

🏆 #TheBestAstroPic2022

No doubt that #picture could have been an #APOD (like the one today).

The first, 1st-author paper by @sgrouffal, who just started a #PhD with me, is now fully published on #AandA. Hence, it will be a Grouffal et al. (2022).

She wrote that paper during her #Master #thesis (also with me as supervisor).

Salomé started her #PhD in October this year, and she is already writing a second 1st-author #paper.

Keep on the good work @sgrouffal 👍

Hi astro mastodon!

I just arrived here! I'm Pía Cortés-Zuleta, a chilean astronomer finishing her PhD in France 🔭🥖

I write mostly about my experience as a PhD student, being a latina scientist, and science!

Two new (potentially rocky) habitable planets in a nearby star (GJ 1002) published today in a paper lead by @[email protected] and the ESPRESSO team in collaboration with the CARMENES team. Very glad to have started the analysis of this system 3 years ago. The two new worlds are detected by the RV method. Their masses are in the Earth regime (actually 1 and 1.3 Earth masses) and their stellar irradiation allow water (if any) to be in liquid state on their rocky surfaces. Image credit: A.
