On the 23rd April the UK gov will be testing the new #emergency alert system (https://www.gov.uk/alerts). If you have a secret phone or a burner phone or similar here's how to disable emergency alerts: https://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/news/2023/mar/emergency-alerts

About Emergency Alerts

Your mobile phone or tablet may get an emergency alert if there’s a danger to life nearby. Alerts tell you what to do to stay safe.

By the way, with Musk already cutting off @Tibor's Movetodon, it's likely that Debirdify and Fedifinder are not long for this world. Even if Musk doesn't kill them immediately, they'll likely die when the API fees kick in next week.

So if you're still on Twitter, or know people there, you might want to encourage them to at least set up accounts here now, before it becomes more difficult.

The next time you use any navigation device, software or Google Maps thank Dr. Gladys West. Her contributions to the mathematical modeling of the shape of Earth, and her work on the development of the satellite models that were eventually incorporated into  the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. #BlackMastodon #BlackHistoryMonth

I don't like sending you over to the #birdsite but please look at

Platfform for Change is launching its #Manifesto today.

To improve our mental health as a society, we need to have a different conversation, one that centres around what is really driving distress ⬇️ #PlatfformManifesto

Long story short:

• My favorite third-party Android calendar app, Business Calendar, just added in support for Wear OS.

• It gives you a much better and more useful set of calendar tiles than what comes on your watch by default — with lots of thoughtfully designed options for viewing and interacting with upcoming events.

Some really nice stuff for any Wear OS device. Well worth your while to check out!

Mastodon supports attaching audio files. You can attach them with the same button you use for photos or videos.

Audio files can be any length, as long as the file size is under 40 megabytes. The supported formats are MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A and 3GP.

The track used in the example is "Modern Technology" by Xvenox under CC-By-SA

Thought Leaders: "Programming will be obsolete within 5 years. All business software will be generated by AIs"

Actual Businesses: "actually we're mainly still on-premise, running on Windows Server 2003 and VBScript ASP, but our two-year plan to migrate everything into a cloud kicked off in 2015 and we're making steady progress."

A winter sunrise at Llyn Llydaw. A retreating blizzard makes way for the sun.

It will come as no surprise that I was alone here. 6.30 a.m. on a freezing winter morning, you'd have to be an idiot to be out here!😉

A sting in the tail!

Standing in the water in shorts and flip flops, I had no clue that just as I took this picture, a jellyfish was wrapping itself around my leg!

From sea waves to waves of pain in a few seconds!

And no, I didn't do, "you know what", to get rid of the pain!💦

Left nasty scars for a few months though.
