I'm the Grumpy Old Ape, father of many, reader of books, writer of C++, doing 24/7 software that keeps your lights on. [he/him]

You may be aware that there is something called the #Fediverse.

But do you know about all the different types of applications that run on the Fediverse?

I made this visual to give myself and others something to point at when explaining "the big picture".

You may be surprised by how many services beyond Mastodon there are to explore.

Download it for free here and use as you please:

That post also has links to all the different applications.

The many branches of the Fediverse

As more and more people are asking me about Mastodon I felt a need for a picture to point at, showcasing how the software known as Mastodon fits into the much larger concept of the Fediverse. I made this infographic to help myself and others explain the many different use-cases

@BlauerKlabauter @veronica He put himself into a miserable position:
He bought Twitter on credit at 3x its worth & it now needs to generate 1b/yr to pay that off (while actually making 0.7b gross & minus net revenue). Every move he made so far alienated users & advertisers, lowering that even further. And he's promised a liberation many governments won't allow him to deliver, while he depends on them to be able to sell his cars.
I want to see him wiggle out of this.
@chrisoldwood You mean the Mastodon client? I think I've seen such a feature in Tusky.
@jerry OTOH, Twitter is (still) an important player on the global information market no matter whether it once was your online home or not, so what happens there does affect all of us even if we moved on. Just considering the effect of its content policies on national elections makes it hard to ignore what happens there.
@oschonrock Same here. I wonder if I should move to another instance…
Employees Shut Out of Twitter's Content-Moderation Systems, Days Before the Midterms

The social network, now owned by Elon Musk, went from having hundreds of employees with access to the tools to limit misinformation to a little over a dozen, according to Bloomberg.

@theDuesentrieb @senficon I read somewhere that his ex-wife left him for a trans woman…
@LibreNyaa @timjan I still have everything on by default. When I come across a new website, I selectively enable domains until the website works enough. a website absolutely refuses to function nevertheless I either give up on it (mostly) or I open it in a private tab in Chrome (rarely).
But since I only browse in containers, and use temporary containers for websites I don't have a dedicated container for, I, too, keep wondering whether I should allow more…
@rainynight65 @Luca Since it searches through the accounts you follow, yes.
