Just another reason why I love and use Linux.

@XeroLinux How did you get the Arch icon into your Mastodon username?

One of the reasons I like using Arch is because it challenges me. It is stable enough for me to use daily, and difficult enough to cause me to think, work and solve my problems. I enjoy these types of problems and derive satisfaction when I solve them.

I need challenges in life because it's what helps drive me to get up everyday and live life.

~zpool clear [dev] command fixed my longstanding frustration. One HDD was being reported as degraded for a long time. After running spinrite on it twice, all sectors were reporting healthy. Yet, TruNAS kept reporting it as degraded.

After running the zpool clear command a few days ago, TruNAS shows everything as healthy and it is running well.

Leadership & Beyond

I'm going to be bringing my website back online soon. In the past I've run 3 versions of it, http, gopher and gemini.

This time it will only be one protocol. The only difference this time is the impact of AI scraping the content for it's own uses. If I go with the http site it's rather certain that AI will scrap my writings.

I wonder if AI is or will be programmed to scour the gopher or gemini protocols.

Following up from yesterday, the resilvering process didn't go as I expected and I did not regain the lost TB's of storage when I re-added the two HDD's. I probably did something wrong.

So trying again today to see if I can regain some TB's.

Everything is backed up on other drives so if I bork TruNAS altogether, no big deal.

Next week I plan on blowing away the whole server, starting from scratch and moving from TruNAS Core to TruNAS Scale.

So after a couple of days of problems with my custom built #TruNAS server (been in service since 2018), I found that one of the SATA buses on the mboard died. I was wondering why I lost 2 of my 6 HDDs. A third drive had a degraded state, but I ran #Spinrite and fixed that. I moved the other 2 HDDs to a PCIe SATA card. The HDDs in the pool were not coming back, so had to use #archlinux live to fdisk them. Now they're resilvering. #linux #nas
