A Spirit Airlines fan has launched Spirit 2.0, a crowdsourcing effort to buy the airline: 'The people can own it'

The movement, dubbed Spirit 2.0, is encouraging regular people to come together and purchase the airline before private equity can.

Adding quick posts to my website. Maybe this could be a thing? Inspired by @theverge https://robog.net/s/2026-05-01-workingonn/
@jcolag Well for me that lineage is secured based on principle. I'll be providing the source and the distribution of the original forever, and keeping up with that, and I'm accountable to that as a person rather than as a legal document. If somebody else wants to sell a modified version of my code for a profit, I don't have lawyer money to stop them, so the license would be no more than a statement of intention. Though, setting that intention isn't nothing.

@jcolag But, I definitely know I'm in the minority on that point. After trying to get the Linux kernel source code for my Barnes and Noble Nook, I sort of lost all illusions that licenses provide any meaningful rights to the average consumer of a copyrighted work. I decided that all/most of my future stuff would move from something like GPL to something like CC0/public domain, because I feel that if big corps will infringe anyways, why restrict honest folks?
@jcolag There's a balance I think between mediating the terms of redistribution of your work vs completely barring redistribution of your work; because of what the outcomes are AND whether it works at all in an internet context. I think it's really cool that somebody like Kevin MacLeod is world-renown because of people linking back to his music when they use it, but I also think that "All Rights Reserved" footers don't stop ChatGPT from scraping your page and using it for model training.

Indie websites love to go "all of my stuff is copyrighted you can't use it" and then do copyright infringement 900 times. Squad, copyright is not made for the little guys. If you want us to live in a world where you can freely use and adapt fonts and artwork and scenes from your favorite shows, you gotta give back.

Just opened threads because I was linked to it somewhere else, and immediately saw this post that was very short and very vindictive and it made me mad, I was like "Why would anyone say that? I should reply to this and say that's not okay." And then I remembered that's exactly how it's supposed to work and that's why I have a golden rule:

The internet is not allowed to make me upset and if it does I simply close the tab.

@ngate software development is hell but at least this guy knows how to surf the flames 🤷

I wonder if this methodology could be used to remove bias in other models. Could be really helpful and important for equity in technology use. Shoutout to MS research for putting money into science to make stuff like this possible. Good stuff!
