A Spirit Airlines fan has launched Spirit 2.0, a crowdsourcing effort to buy the airline: 'The people can own it'

The movement, dubbed Spirit 2.0, is encouraging regular people to come together and purchase the airline before private equity can.

Indie websites love to go "all of my stuff is copyrighted you can't use it" and then do copyright infringement 900 times. Squad, copyright is not made for the little guys. If you want us to live in a world where you can freely use and adapt fonts and artwork and scenes from your favorite shows, you gotta give back.

Just opened threads because I was linked to it somewhere else, and immediately saw this post that was very short and very vindictive and it made me mad, I was like "Why would anyone say that? I should reply to this and say that's not okay." And then I remembered that's exactly how it's supposed to work and that's why I have a golden rule:

The internet is not allowed to make me upset and if it does I simply close the tab.

I wonder if this methodology could be used to remove bias in other models. Could be really helpful and important for equity in technology use. Shoutout to MS research for putting money into science to make stuff like this possible. Good stuff!

Improving Diffusion Models for Class-imbalanced Training Data via Capacity Manipulation - Microsoft Research

While diffusion models have achieved remarkable performance in image generation, they often struggle with the imbalanced datasets frequently encountered in real-world applications, resulting in significant performance degradation on minority classes. In this paper, we identify model capacity allocation as a key and previously underexplored factor contributing to this issue, providing a perspective that is orthogonal […]

I feel like this should have gotten more attention when it was published. I think it's pretty significant that we are noticing these emergent behaviors and internal states inside of LLMs that are separate to their actual generation of text. I think that other research companies should be taking a closer look at this in their own models. What is it thinking while it tells us something else?

Happy trans day of visibility, especially to all non-binary and transgender developers!

We have the power to build a world where computer systems accept and understand all kinds of people. DBAs, add those preferred name fields! Web devs, add a pronoun flair! You can shine the light of love and compassion that you would want other people to show you.

Have a great Tuesday and may all your tests go green!

Good news today! Copyright liability reduced for ISPs, increasing user privacy as ISPs need not police user internet activity for copyright purposes. The courts agreed that it's not worth sacrificing everything for the sake of policing copyright. Supreme Court Agrees With EFF: ISPs Don't Have To Be Copyright Enforcers

If your ISP can be liable for huge amounts of money for not terminating your access to the internet because of accusations that you—or someone in your household or college network—has committed copyright infringement, that is dangerous. We live in a world where high speed internet access is a...
