I'm about as strategic a voter as they come ... in general elections. If it's down to two evils, I'm there, every single time, first in line to vote for the lesser one.

But I will scream until my dying day that primaries just aren't for that. Primaries are about preference. They're for picking the one you like best. That's why I love giant primaries with a dozen candidates and ranked choice voting. It's my favorite kind of democracy. It's both effective and sincerely fun for me.

So if you're in New York City, a city I love but don't vote in, please vote your preference, not what someone else tells you is smart or strategic. Vote your values and don't believe them when they say you have to compromise. Not yet. And please, please, don't rank Cuomo.

"There’s neofascism and crypto-fascism and ur-fascism and Islamofascism. But Donald Trump has given us something new: clown-show fascism.

Clown-show fascism describes a regime marked simultaneously by hubristic and defiant assaults on the democratic and constitutional order on the one hand and, on the other, a nearly laughable incompetence in just about every other area of the regime’s activity."

~ Michael Tomasky

In 100 Days, Trump Has Invented Something New: Clown-Show Fascism

The Trump administration is a serious threat to democracy. They’re also laughably incompetent. But the result is no laughing matter.

Tomorrow is Tuesday. That means morning meeting, which means pulling oneself together, which means the concierge (my phone) will wake me up at 7:30, which comes very early around here.

But it *also* means, for all of us, not just for me, that we have another chance, to be brave and kind, to inch ever so much closer towards who we wish we were.

It's a Tuesday, so:

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay angry. Stay silly. Stay kind.

I wish we would stop using the Federalist/Heritage framing of "unitary executive". It is authoritarian, totalitarian, fascist. Let us use our language, not theirs.

Of course the lede is the comically careless security breach, but after that, look at the level of discourse as our top intelligence and DoD officials try to decide matters of life and death.

"if you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again.” (The Vice President.)

"I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC." The Secretary of Defense.

They're clowns. They're children. They've been handed awesome power.

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans

U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

#Trump’s #tariffs target countries that are major suppliers of a wide range of goods to the #UnitedStates.

For American families, the likely result is higher #prices nearly everywhere they turn — in grocery aisles, at car dealerships, at electronics stores & at the pump.

Which Products Could Cost More With Tariffs? Groceries, Gas and More Could Be More Expensive for U.S. Consumers

New tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China took effect Tuesday. They are likely to result in higher prices for Americans.

I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to my American friends for what we’re about to do to the U.S., but sometimes the only way to deal with a bully is to punch them in the face. That traitor is holding you hostage, and until he’s removed, the best we can do for you, friends, and us, is to kick the stuffing out of him.

Also, it’s been a long cold winter since that orange buffoon and his Fox ilk started harassing us a decade ago, and whatever small pain we can inflict on that arse is good.

In other news, the fact that we buy so much lumber from countries like Canada has become a national security threat, says the White House. Translation: We're going to start cutting down a lot more trees here in the US of A!

I said what I said about the universal appeal of anti-Black racism in the US🤷🏿‍♂️

This is why you lose.

This is why you have no defense against foreign interference.

This is why all of the other stuff on the other side of the chart, is so easy for them to accomplish.

"At least he hurt Black folk!🤡"
