@mcnees I saw her photograph posted on the University of Wisconsin-Madison's CS department 'Wall of fame'. She did her BS and MS in Madison I believe

Sister Mary Kenneth Keller was born #OTD in 1913. She worked with John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz on the design and implementation of Beginner’s All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code — BASIC — and was the first woman in the US to earn a PhD in Computer Science.

I've never been able to finish an audiobook before, but I managed to do it with Andrew Sean Greer's Less. Here's my take on audiobooks and a review of this Pulitzer-winning romantic comedy: https://cosyreadingniche.wordpress.com/2022/11/28/my-first-audiobook-andrew-sean-greers-less/

@ronsboy67 @bookstodon oh no, my bad, it isn't set in summer - unfortunately, Christie's little Belgian detective didn't make any travels that I can recall to the southern hemisphere. It's about a family that has fallen apart but is surprisingly called back by the old patriarch for a Christmas eve dinner (iirc it was set in the English countryside somewhere)
@ronsboy67 @bookstodon Hercule Poirot's Christmas, if you're in the mood for a good old Agatha Christie whodunit!
@thewildforest I agree, I also downloaded it because someone on #bookstodon recommended it and I love the little visualizations it creates that are surprisingly rich with detail.

[Reposting this since the Mastodon threading messed up and it got lost in the replies]

There is a #Latex package that makes it easier to use #AnnotatedEquations! Also, it is much more visually appealing since the heights of the various boxes are normalized.

Check it out! Thanks to twitter user @\scien_ti_st for doing all the hard work to create this.

OMG I just realized Mastodon is what Twitter would be if it were Canadian
@SunnJax would recommend "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" by Benjamin Sáenz, and also "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller.

@albertocairo As a graduate student taking my first #DataVis course this Fall, I initially read through assigned readings from The Functional Art and The Truthful Art, and I loved the non-textbook, informal feel of them so much that I read through a lot more than just what my professor assigned.

This feels even more personal, looking forward to reading more of it! Pardon the obvious pun, but the introduction itself is magic!
