I used to host Science On Top, a science news podcast. But then 2020 happened, and after 9 years it has ended.

I’m a #skeptic, a geek, and a sci-fi buff. Big #Pratchett fan. I’m both intrigued and frustrated by #politics & #journalism.

But mostly I just toot random things that come to mind, or silly jokes, or memes. You're not always going to get intellectual profundity, but hey anything's possible.

Behold a seven-segment clock display ...

... that runs pneumatically

it alternately sucks in and then releases the segments, so they appear as divots in a rubbery surface

very organic!

My mum just sent me this joke via her friend's sister. (They are all aged 74-78.)

So Trump dies and this bloke asks where the grave is as wants to piss on it, told he has to go to Los Angeles. “Los Angeles! But he died in New York”, “Yes, but you join the queue in Los Angeles”.

People minimizing Orbán’s defeat in #Hungary through voting, and claiming that the same can’t be done to Donald Trump: Remember that Orbán was in power for SIXTEEN YEARS, that is, 2.5× LONGER than Trump. He had more than twice the time Trump has had to intimidate, corrupt, and destroy Hungary’s systems of voting. And yet, voting unseated him.

PLEASE do not preemptively give up on voting. Voting still works in the US, and it is quite likely that our voting infrastructure will far outlive Trump and his destructive party.

Authoritarians rely on a perceived popular mandate to continue their abuse. Voting can decisively deny them that mandate. Do not give up prematurely.

VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.

@MarcAbrahams Few weeks ago I showed the IG Nobels to my son, nine years old, and now he is crazy about flying frogs, stresful cows and dogs peeing to the south/north (actually, our dog is being the continuation of this experiment 😁)
So, everyday he asks me something about science, and -despite I dont have scientist knowledge- we look for the answer together using wikipedia.

Thank you so much for making science atractible for children 👏

Scott Morrison was such a control freak that he secretly appointed himself as a Minister for 6 additional portfolios when he was PM, but he did not have any responsibility for Robodebt when he was just the Minister in charge of it. OK.
