I used to host Science On Top, a science news podcast. But then 2020 happened, and after 9 years it has ended.

I’m a #skeptic, a geek, and a sci-fi buff. Big #Pratchett fan. I’m both intrigued and frustrated by #politics & #journalism.

But mostly I just toot random things that come to mind, or silly jokes, or memes. You're not always going to get intellectual profundity, but hey anything's possible.

@cafuego @purserj You mean some kind of nuclear power that doesn't need cooling, and the power plant is literally not in anyone's backyard? Crazy talk!!!
@purserj That sounds like the sort of thing that could be a problem in a country like, I dunno, Australia if we were to go down that road....
@akamran @TheConversationUS Teach a fish to fish for a day...

This is obscene. Are we taking bets on when he's going to spend half his fortune on ending world poverty? Or a third on funding the planet's switch to renewables? Maybe both?

Any day now, right?

Elon Musk now has an unfathomable amount of money. It looks a bit like this

Elon Musk has become the world's first trillionaire. It is hard to fathom a figure so staggering, but let's give it a shot.

@aby Exactly the same as before. Same texture, colour, smell and taste.

Just without the pregnancy risk.

British place names continue to be magical 💦

What happens when someone returns home to the remotest inhabited island in the world, and gets sick with Hantavirus?
An insanely complicated military operation to parachute medical personnel and supplies onto the golf course, that's what!

Behold a seven-segment clock display ...

... that runs pneumatically

it alternately sucks in and then releases the segments, so they appear as divots in a rubbery surface

very organic!
