Especially in the light of Zuckerberg's recent behaviour, please consider using Signal, it's actually good and a pretty easy replacement for Whatsapp

After some German unions yesterday, more than 60 (!!) German universities left #X/#Twitter today. Some are already active on #Mastodon. They justified this with their commitment to fact-based communication and against antidemocratic forces. Values that promote diversity, freedom and science aren't present over there, they say. 👏🏻

Two oligarchs with no government standing have created an entity falsely named as a government department. They are hiring private employees outside any official process. These operatives are interfering with actual government employees.

How is this legal?

DOGE is dispatching agents across U.S. government

Federal officials are already dealing with surrogates from Elon Musk’s and Vivek Ramaswamy’s nongovernmental body before Donald Trump is sworn in again.

The Washington Post
Insane review of a #mousetrap on Ace Hardware's website:
Meanwhile, latest data for the CPI shows overall inflation at 2.4 percent on an annual basis, down slightly from 2.5 percent previously. That’s more than the 2.3 percent forecast by economists.
What happened on Jan. 6 and in the weeks before is not reasonably disputed. But Trump has faced no accountability for trying to undermine the election results — and the nation's governmental institutions once again declined to impose any.

Analysis | The institutions of government aren’t going to protect democracy

What happened on Jan. 6, 2021 — and in the weeks before — is very obvious. But our governmental institutions are unwilling or unable to address it.

Washington Post

This poll from the NY Times demonstrates better than anything I've seen lately how thoroughly journalism has botched its job -- to inform the public about actual reality as opposed to giving equal weight to lies and thereby helping make the lies what the public then believes.

We're screwed.

Americans: Roe is settled law

SCOTUS: Nope—State’s rights means Roe is repealed

A: Absurd but at least states can remove insurrectionists from their ballot

SCOTUS: No—No State’s rights on this particular issue

A: But you Just said—

SCOTUS: How dare you doubt our legitimacy!?

Careful about using this decision to dump on the Supreme Court. There are plenty of legitimate concerns about this court, but today's ruling may not be a prime example.

For one thing, it was a unanimous ruling. The liberal justices concurred, even though they split on certain aspects of the ruling. This was going to happen.

Importantly, the court did not rule on whether Trump engaged in insurrection. Colorado determined he did. We all saw his mob. People died. It's our job to judge him.

Neither the NY Times or the Washington Post reported Trump's statement that he would encourage Russia to attack NATO on the front page.

Both managed to find room for missives on Biden's age & memory.

And they're completely flummoxed as to why journalism is dying...
