The reaction to bigotry, particularly if you're just overhearing it directed at someone else, really should be "EW! THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!".
a question hydra is when you ask a question and every answer engenders two more questions

What is the biggest bait and switch tactic you have seen in the tech industry?

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

โ€œBy signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail โ€“ it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.โ€

This will kill people.

Good morning, fedizens / fedifriends / masto-mateys ๐ŸŒ…

A reminder on the real #luxuries in life ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ž

@PhoenixSerenity I love these! โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ
@SeaFury These all spark joyful feels ๐Ÿฅฐ
@PhoenixSerenity
Good morning Que.
May you have at least a few of these today. โ˜บ๏ธ
@WrenArcher Good morning, Wren. I'm sure to relish in more than one of those today ๐Ÿ˜€ I hope you can too!

@PhoenixSerenity

"Any amount of health amplified or preserved, no matter how small" is something I'd add to this excellent list.

@PhoenixSerenity @aktbar All good arguments for retirement.
@johnniesan @aktbar Or how to soft resist the capitalist hamster wheel of productivity at all other costs.
@PhoenixSerenity Great list! Right now I have slow mornings, listening to birds, home-cooked meal and day naps ๐Ÿ’–
@allanon ๐Ÿ‘Joyful contentment ๐Ÿ™‚
@PhoenixSerenity wow, I don't do 12 of 12 of those activities...
@PhoenixSerenity I'm retired & have the good fortune of enjoying them all with regularity. ๐Ÿค—
@sgt1372 Blessed be ๐Ÿ’ž
@PhoenixSerenity I want to add: Hanging out in the backyard with the neighbors.
@PhoenixSerenity
Allow me to add "clean water" and a "hot shower" ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿป
@grootinside Worthy additions ๐Ÿ‘
@PhoenixSerenity ability to freely express yourself = setting everything ablaze
@PhoenixSerenity currently raising little children, so most if not all the list will be off limits for a while.
@Nux Luckily, there's a few things on this that you can enjoy doing with young kids. My nephew's Mom is a nature teacher for preschoolers. She also helps busy parents learn how to give themselves these kind of simple but very soul rewarding luxuries too. Being a parent is a hard job upon itself ๐Ÿ’ž
@PhoenixSerenity Having a slow morning with the companionship of Hezekiah the Cockatiel, who is sitting on my chest, getting head scritchies and making happy sounds.๐Ÿฆœ
@c_merriweather That sounds very therapeutic.

@PhoenixSerenity In these cases, I always find our political and social involvement lacking. I would add:

- Being able to integrate into a cooperative community.

- Being able to contribute to the decisions and processes of that community.

@HorcaDobleMango For me these luxuries are part of my essential self care toolbox. I can't contribute well to myself, my family, my community & world at large - if I continually burn myself out & don't make time to invest in these non-capitalist luxuries. These are the luxuries that help me to stay focused on meaningful work, to rejuvenate my spirit, to connect more offline & remember what I'm fighting for.
@PhoenixSerenity Of course, normal. Don't take it personally. We all need moments like you say, and they're important. I just wanted to say that in our time, it's only self-care that's identified with luxury, with freedom. If everyone helps themselves, who helps others? Un saludo desde Espaรฑa
@HorcaDobleMango If we don't take care of ourselves, we aren't able to help others as well & it can harm communities too. A lot of newbie activists have had to learn that lesson. We need rest to be able to contribute better.

@PhoenixSerenity See, I have lots of all of those things. I don't have a lot of things other people think of as necessities, but I think I come out well from the deal.

I'd add 'good friends'.

@PhoenixSerenity This can be reduced to single luxury: "free time".
@koteisaev My former workaholic past life used to believe that. I've changed my mindset over the decades. I now make the time for these luxuries. I only have one guaranteed life.
@PhoenixSerenity Yes, I understand it. I just noticed what is common with these pleasures. All of them need extra time, free time you can use as you prefer.
Some people have to work a lot because their salary too low.
Other work too much because got trapped into some "Status" requirements and it bloated the unnecessary expenses.
Take long walks. It require a few hours of free time (or at least 1-2), to get there and return back.
It does not require an expensive equipment. _Just_ free time.

@koteisaev Yeah - I get all of that & lived it. It was costing me too much in other ways when I didn't make much time for my own needs.

I had to change how I managed my own time & reprioritized for improved well-being๐Ÿ™Œ

@PhoenixSerenity I think I come through this via "going from bottom upwards". Get own apartment was actually a "game changer". Now, even with just a bit of increase of salary, I can afford to work "just 40 hours", and have time for some relaxing and interesting stuff, and 2 vacations within EU (while I live outside EU).
If we don't have to care about making osme pension savings, I could work even less. But I may be in privileged position compared to 90% of people living here.
@koteisaev I'm disabled working poor (supporting a parent). Investing time for these luxuries is also part of my personal survival ๐Ÿ™Œ
@PhoenixSerenity I agree with all of these but I might add eating a sun ripened tomato from the garden
@julieb53 Delicious. Homegrown tomatoes are tastier than grocery ones.

@PhoenixSerenity

Ahem! Soft toilet paper.

@PhilthyPierre In the forest - you can use huge thimbleberry leaves - super soft & velvety feel. To keep the list free of needing to buy anything๐Ÿ‘Œ

@PhoenixSerenity

#Wonderful !
That's what #Life really is about.

@PhoenixSerenity I am truly blessed as I have all of those, plus a 1yo baby daughter to fill my days with joy. <3
@PhoenixSerenity Love this reminder. Yes to all of these. And alsoโ€” fresh ripe fruit ๐Ÿ˜‹
@plantago This week, I'm harvesting apples, plums & Asian pears from our backyard ๐Ÿ˜Š

@PhoenixSerenity

Not luxuries, rather a basic set of rights.

@cyclotopie
Yes. Yet, in a crapitalist world, our basic human rights are commodified by evil people who lack humanity.
Hence, we can redefine what wealth means to us, as the citizens of the world. In same veins as, health is wealth - the above are golden luxuries & soft resistance options to current global hellscape. Hard resistance actions are necessary too. Both are necessary for humanity to survive this shit we're living in.
