Another #urbancoyote shot from #sanfrancisco

While urban coyotes may have a reputation as scavengers or trash-eaters, I would mostly observe them hunting gophers on parks and on hillsides.

Twitter was a nice website but it's dead now. Don't be fooled by the corpse twitching. Luckily, we can make more websites, and we will.
Leaving other valid criticisms to the side, some to which I am not qualified to speak, I am befuddled at the fact that some of my friends and colleagues don’t see the opportunity to escape from corporate, commercial social media and internet experiences as an incredible win and major breakthrough.

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.

I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email [email protected] if you (or your organization) are interested

On joining Mastodon

An academic friend asked for help joining Mastodon. I wrote a detailed email in response that I thought it might be useful to others. I’m also going to teach a master class in Mastodon at my school…

The founder of Post said today that the company is explicitly *not* focused on accessibility. Disappointing to read something like this in 2022

πŸ”– Statistical code in a high-impact medical journal

A journal started asking authors to submit code with their manuscripts. They then analysed the next 314 papers accepted

87% denied using code, even when publishing substantial statistical analysis

10% used code but refused to share it with the journal

For the few that provided code, none scored even moderately on basic quality criteria
