My pick for Best New Sci-Fi TV Series Of 2022 is:
The Peripheral starring Chloë Grace Moretz!
This has a twisty-turny plot, an excellent cast, sterling production, outstanding visual effects. Trust, the story goes places you don’t expect. #scifi #bestof2022 #scifimastodon #cyberpunk

“The idea that the poor should have leisure has always been shocking to the rich.”

If this year taught us anything, it's that:

1) Workers keep America going, not billionaires.
2) Corporate profits don't trickle down to workers.
3) Poverty is a policy choice.
4) Health care is a human right.
5) Strikes work.

I hope we act on these lessons in the new year.

Things I have learnt using #Mastodon:

1. Your Home feed only shows what you follow (people, hashtags), in chronological order. There's no algorithm to inject things you may like. This is good in the long term, but it also means that can be pretty empty and boring as you start.

2. To get started, follow some hashtags that interest you, to fill in your feed and find people you'd like to follow.

3. You can "star" (favourite) posts, but this does not imply you'll see more posts of that kind.

#OTD 27 December 1822 Louis Pasteur was born. He became one of the most important scientists in human history, renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He developed a vaccine for rabies & anthrax. He popularized germ theory & founded modern microbiology. You're likely alive because of his work.

Why Winter Storm Elliott Is More New Normal Than Once In A Generation

In covering climate over the past two decades, there is an emerging pattern I’ve noticed.

Kirkjufellfoss, #Iceland 🌈

I left Reykjavik early morning and headed 3 hours north to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to shoot Kirkjufell.
We arrived at the famous peak. It was a downpour. My heart sank. Exhausted and still to early to go eat dinner, I took a nap in the car for “a few minutes.” A few minutes turned into an hour.
As I slept, the sun had come out behind me and woke me up. I turned and looked at Kirkjufell. My jaw dropped. #Rainbow over Kirkjufell!

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day.

Tell a man all the fish in the world are available to him if only he strives for fishing excellence even as you defund public fishing schools as dangerous socialism but emphasize that if he REALLY wants fish he can either go deeply into debt taking predatory loans to learn the proper means of fish management or take a shit job working for people who also can't fish but were born into a family that owns an empire of factory fish farms where he can harvest gross mutant garbage fish that he and other people whose public fishing schools shuttered can then buy at a 2000% markup because the people who control all the fish say "that is just the market dictating the price of fish" and he will eat what and when you tell him to, is the working theory.
