Things I have learnt using #Mastodon:

1. Your Home feed only shows what you follow (people, hashtags), in chronological order. There's no algorithm to inject things you may like. This is good in the long term, but it also means that can be pretty empty and boring as you start.

2. To get started, follow some hashtags that interest you, to fill in your feed and find people you'd like to follow.

3. You can "star" (favourite) posts, but this does not imply you'll see more posts of that kind.

4. Your Local timeline shows posts on the server you are registered to, this is one reason for choosing a server that suits you.

5. You can use a service such as https://moa.party/ to automatically replicate your posts on Mastodon to Twitter, and vice-versa.

6. #Mastodon does not need a phone app; in fact, it works perfectly well as a web app in your mobile phone's browser.
