OMG thank you Gotify Android app for making this selectable. I detest "relative time" format timestamps, and this goes double for temporally important things like alerts.

The rest of you should take notes.

No notes.

Just thinking aloud here.

Would you put a small "made by human" button on your website in an effort to stop AI crawlers?

Traffic from the button would be used to get more IP addresses and bad browser user agents.

@vantablack The street finds it's own uses for things.
@vantablack that's pretty cool, but the image's alt text is just a copy of the post title and doesn't actually explain what's going on at all. I was keen to boost this otherwise.

@timixretroplays @vantablack

What else is there to say? Someone is serving food, on a sidewalk, out of a metal box labeled SUN MICROSYSTEMS with wheels mounted to it.

@publius @vantablack well, you've just added 3 more clues - it's a metal box, it has wheels, and it says Sun Microsystems on it. "The cage of a Sun Enterprise 10000 Server" won't mean much to anyone who hasn't worked in a data center.

I've just added a more complete alt text caption in another comment.

@vantablack #ALT4you a photo of a street food vendor, operating from a food cart made from a repurposed computer server rack. The rack is a long grey box lying on its side, has had wheels added for mobility, and says "Sun Microsystems" on the side. A pipe sticks out from one end, leading to a small gas bottle.
@vantablack The computer is the <s>network</s> nacho stand
@vantablack I wonder if they serve Java
@vantablack Circle of life
@CursedSilicon @vantablack I saw the foodcart picture before and I find it double- funny because when I was working on Solaris at Sun and then Oracle, some of our servers had a zone called “foodcart” which we used to provision other zones for testing.
@blami Was this where the "Happy Meal" and "Big Mac" NIC's came from?
@CursedSilicon No, not really. I remember we had a lot of food references in code and product names, likely stemming from “pizza box” workstation line. Big Mac was afaik just play on MAC. Naming of sbus cards went Lance 10Mbit then they built 100Mbit called Mace. I guess Mace inspired the next card to be Big Mac and Happy Meal came after. I am not sure if it was Happy Meal because it was full duplex, def not because it had 4 ports because there was Happy Meal with 1 too.
@blami I do miss that era. Feels like everything had so much more "personality" than nowadays
@CursedSilicon Yeah, pretty happy as someone born in 1985 who landed internship at Sun in 2005, worked on Solaris until 2017. Computers were much more fun in 90s. In 00s it went downhill with all the cloud craze, smartphones, webapps, SaaS and subscriptions.
@blami '92. Far too late. The best I can do is tread through history as a digital antiquarian
@CursedSilicon Naah, I think you still caught Ultima Online prime time!

@blami Oh fuck. That takes me back. I would've been like...eight??? I played it like once at a friend of my Dad's

All I remember is I pickpocketed the deed and keys to some dudes freshly purchased house

Then he showed up to get into "his" house and wanted to fight me to get the deed back because technically it was "my" house now

@vantablack @jsr I feel this is @rmi in an alternate universe
@yakmoose @vantablack @jsr I wish I’d chosen that timeline
@vantablack One of the first Sun machines I had professional access to, at least a portion of it. It was the pride and joy of the department. I cut my php / Apache teeth on that.

@vantablack

Remember Silicon Graphics management stupidity enabled that food cart.

@vantablack Still love that logo.
@vantablack geez, what a fall from grace. sun went from being one of the best UNIX workstation vendors out there and making one of the most used programming languages, now they've downsized all the way down to a single street food cart. heartbreaking stuff.

@vantablack I feel this should make an appearance in @prahou's Unix Surrealism
Please, get her out

sunons

@prahou @vantablack l meant the sun cart, its so transportive
@vantablack It never served better 😆

@vantablack the E10k was an amazing machine. Back when I worked for Sun, I attended the service training for it when it came out. It was very different from other Sun machines since it was based on a design from Cray. SGI bought most of Cray, but Sun got their SPARC based stuff.

The initial model had a maximum of 64 CPU's and 64 GB RAM, on 16 CPU boards.

You also had a way to electrically separate sets of CPU boards into domains that could run separate OS instances.

@vantablack My personal E10K became an audio rack 😏
