Chris TrottierBy the way, I'm now actively blocking anyone coming here to argue about the merits of donating to the NON-PROFIT that builds Mastodon.
It's absolute dirtbag behaviour when Mastodon struggles so much under a #TwitterMigration of millions of users.
Now lets put things into perspective. Last month, Twitter was employing 6,500 people. Mastodon employs 1 person who's working 14 hour days -- and only compensates himself β¬36,000 a year.
How is one guy supposed to take build the app that replaces Twitter when Twitter pays hundreds of engineers well over $100,000 to do a fraction of the work?
Yeah, other people deserve donations too -- so donate! Be a hero to the person who's running your instance, as well as the person who builds whatever app your instance is running.
And lest you think that I don't bang the drums on donations for other devs, this is not the case.
Last week, I told everyone to donate to @dansup. A couple of days ago, I told everyone to donate to @Are0h who, by the way, is making another app that builds safety features for marginalized communities. And I'm banging the drum all the time on @[email protected] and his work with Calckey.
But right now, I'm urging people to help out with Mastodon!

KuJoe πSo many people are having a bad first experience with Mastodon because they're using the official app which is lacking features, doesn't allow image uploads randomly, has random slowness, and doesn't give you easy access to the two most active feeds where you can find people (Local and Federated).
Please switch to Metatext, Tusky, or Tooot for a better mobile experience (or even use a browser).
Out of the >15k users that joined this week, over 11k are on the official apps.

Tony YatesThe Musk Trump poll is I think another nail in the coffin of the Twitter brand. Advertisers will be even more annoyed. Some of us users close to feeling like we have to be off that site on principle.

2008: Bebo was sold for $850m, to AOL. The founders later bought it back for $1m. It was regarded as one of the worst deals ever made in the dot-com era.
2013: Yahoo paid $1.1bn for Tumblr. 2019: they sold it in $3m.
Elon Musk paid $44bn for Twitter. If history has taught us anything it's that this isn't going to end well⦠when there wasn't a viable business model in the first place.

Currently, only 4,720 patrons are donating to Mastodon.
However, if everyone chips in $2/month, this will ensure the continued survival of Mastodon!
