I guess Sept 2nd is as close to an anniversary we have for Monkey Island. I made the gold master on the 2nd but it probably didn't appear in stores until Oct. There was no "release date" back them. It annoys we when people say Monkey Island "released" today.

Here's a secret known only to a few people: the #C128 can push the VIC-II further than the #C64 thanks to an undocumented "test bit" exposed by the hardware that affects the timing of the video signal. This allows expanding the display area vertically as well as adding 11 new colours to the original 16 by effectively swapping the red and green components.

I captured a part from Risen from Oblivion, a 24-year-old demo that does both of these tricks at the same time.
