It was beyond wild and gorgeous to see dozens of white-faced ibises at the lake reservoir yesterday. My pictures all came out pretty patchy in focus (shaky hand day for me), but even so, and even given the practically lurid colors of the muggy detritus and sinking algae to compete with (left behind to as the reservoir drains and evaporates), I hope you can see what gorgeous birds these are (those oilskin-like ruddy necks and emerald wings!). It was such a thrill to find them.
@handmade_ghost
Great find! They are gorgeous birds.
@BeazLouise Thanks! They are really wonderful.
@handmade_ghost I can definitely see how gorgeous they are!! And they look at home amid the algae
@idzie It's like a very wet savannah! 😁
@handmade_ghost
Your pictures. are great! THIS is a bad photo of one! My first sighting in 2024. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself.
@ICareAboutTheWorld So pretty in the tall grass! I saw my first one last year also. They are so gorgeous.
@handmade_ghost Aren't they though! Those long curved beaks. Hard to believe they can sustain a big bird like that.
@handmade_ghost
Beautiful! I don't think I've ever seen them.
@mtechman I've only seen one once before! They are fantastic birds.
@handmade_ghost they look so cool! Those curved beaks! 😍
@wurzelmann Yes!! They are so fancy!!
