It’s sad how many people ignore warning signs, climb over fences, fall, have to be rescued, put first responders at risk and die. The #OregonCoast is very dangerous if you wander where you’re not supposed to.

Today was my second attempt at #ParksOnTheAir #AmateurRadio activation at Park US-9532 Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area on the #OregonCoast. I only made 2 successful contacts on the radio, but had several conversations with people who were interested in discussing what I was doing with an antenna, solar panel and radio on the beach. I had #POTA fun and a few pleasant conversations even though I didn’t achieve the 10 radio contacts required for a “successful activation”.

The Oregon Coast feels beautifully wild.

I bought this watercolor painting from the Yaquina Art Association (the gallery at the turnaround in Nye Beach). It’s intended as a gift for a friend whose birthday is in a few weeks. I like it so much that I need to resist temptation to keep it for myself (that means it’s a great gift, I think). Now I know the artist, and I can visit the gallery anytime I want to see more of her work. #newportoregon #oregoncoast
I went back to Cape Perpetua today to hike to the shelter at the top. I ran into two people visiting from Phoenix who had just got engaged. I gave them some good tips on places to go in the area, came back down and then went farther down to the Thor’s Well area to watch waves hitting the rocks (and too many people too close to the slippery edge of the hole). Stopped by Luna Sea in Seal Rock for fish tacos on the way back. What a beautiful and delicious day so far! #oregoncoast #CapePerpetua
