@patchymoose Lemmy (join-lemmy.org) looks promising, but I haven't found a good app yet. I'm hoping that will change now that Reddit has pissed off a lot of app developers though ;)

Ok, forget Reddit for a second. Did anyone post on SomethingAwful back in the day?

This place (Lemmy) reminds me a lot of when I used to post on SA back before Reddit was popular. I wouldn’t call it “small” per se, but you actually knew who the moderators were. And since there was no upvote/downvote system, it was a lot more casual and people didn’t feel the need to try to tailor their posts to get upvoted. Of course, it was also a dumpster fire sometimes too, and just like Reddit, the guy running it was a jerk. But I do miss it sometimes.

I’m completely flummoxed that #reddit is staying the course on their #api fees. It’s as if the Titanic saw the iceberg before they left port, and still steered the ship right into it. After more than a decade, I think I’m ready to call it quits on them, too. Thank you @christianselig for a great app. #apolloapp
With #Twitter not being a place I check anymore, and #Reddit starting to look iffy, I rediscovered an old friend on Mastodon: @slashdot
Say what you want about Facebook. It’s run by people who understand the intersection of brand safety and commercial interests as paid advertising. Facebook’s Twitter clone might eat Twitter’s lunch. Brands are running from Twitter, and they’re not exactly headed to Truth Social.

The main cause is apparently ChatGPT and everyone under the sun scraping all of Reddit’s data.

Why not make an API for true clients vs the firehose?

I have zero faith in Steve Huffman’s ability to lead Reddit.

What kind of chief executive officer posts this comment after a massive community backlash? https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/145bram/addressing_the_community_about_changes_to_our_api/jnk45rr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3

Addressing the community about changes to our API

#Reddit user for 15 years. Today I uninstalled all Reddit clients from my phone.

Now the question is just if Lemmy will take off or if I get my time back for good ;)

If I ever build an app with terrible UX and millions of users to kneecap and gaslight the third-party devs who made it usable, and to the detriment of all my users, remind me not to host an AMA. It turns out, you can take something that's already bad and make it much worse by thinking you're clever. #Reddit
