The Great Reddit Migration to the Fediverse

@MissingThePt I’m so dumb. Even though I’m active here and on Pixelfed (Insta alternative) I never considered that there would be a Reddit alternative in the Fediverse. Suggestions on where to begin are welcome!

@csolisr
What are the deciding differences between the two?
@ToreJuloe
Kbin combines both communities ("magazines") with microblogging. Lemmy has a more solid API and mobile apps. Both are fortunately intercompatible.

"I think for myself, I do not follow the herd”, says everyone.
@MissingThePt what’s going on with reddit?

@Esssie31 basically, Reddit is cutting off access to it's platform from third party apps. And as a form of protest against that, a whole bunch of Subreddits are gonna go private starting Monday for 48 hours and some are going private indefinitely.

Including the ones that have like 30 million subscribers.

@MissingThePt id this keeps on happening my anxiety won't have any doom scrolling left 😍
@MissingThePt I just got here and it seems like people are just talking about politics. Is there a way to filter out entire topics?
@gardner @MissingThePt Welcome. By “here” I assume you mean Mastodon? If so you have lots of power to filter in or out however you want. You are in complete control of what you see. If there are specific keywords you don’t want to see, add them or related hashtags to your filters. Second, follow people and hashtags that are talking about what you want to read. Lastly, I recommend following @feditips they have great information in their feed for those new to Mastodon.

@Archnemysis thanks for the info. Yes "here" being Mastodon.

I have set up my filters for "Trump" and "Biden" but I still get a heap of toxic USA political content in my /explore page. I tried making one filter per word and that didn't work either. I'll do a bit more investigation.

Edit: I still see posts with those keywords.

Edit 2: It's a known bug: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21083
